Federal Skilled Trades Program

UPDATE FOR 2015: EXPRESS ENTRY NOW IN EFFECT FOR FEDERAL SKILLED TRADES PROGRAM

The Federal Skilled Trades Program is for people who want to become permanent residents based on being qualified in a skilled trade.

Applicants must have at least two years of full-time work experience, or the equivalent in part-time work, in a skilled trade within the last five years, after becoming qualified to independently practice their occupation; Time spent in an apprenticeship position will not be counted.

Skilled Trades currently eligible for the Federal Skilled Trades Program are organized under these major and minor groups of the NOC:

Major Group 72: Industrial, electrical and construction trades;

Major Group 73: Maintenance and equipment operation trades;

Major Group 82: Supervisors and technical occupations in national resources, agriculture and related production;

Major Group 92: Processing, manufacturing and utilities supervisors and central control operators;

Minor Group 632: chefs and cooks;

Minor Group 633: butchers and bakers.

In addition, applicants must meet the relevant employment requirements for their occupation as set out in the National Occupational Classification (NOC).
